A loan from the House of Hermès for the exhibition Indigo, Clothing and Textiles of the World, featured at the Museum until November 17th, 2019.
One of Hermès’ most iconic designs. This prototype was screen-printed and dyed using the arashi shibori technique. The fabric was tightly folded, accordion-style, then rolled onto a cylinder and securely tied in place. The entire structure was then dipped in an indigo bath. The ties produce streaks, and the folding results in a gradient effect.
