Raw silk skeins and spools – sericulture stage 3

The next step is to unwind the silk strands from the cocoon. The cocoons are then immersed in hot water, which softens the strands and allows them to be wound around a spool. Several strands (between 4 and 16) can be unwound together to create threads of varying thickness.

The yarn is then prepared and sold in the form of skeins or spools.
