Pleated dress
Semi-precious gemstone crochet jewelry
This dress puts a contemporary spin on the age-old technique of crochet, featuring semi-precious gemstones crocheted entirely with gold thread. Jewelry designer Sylvie Boksandbaum has perfected this special technique, practiced exclusively by a small circle of master craftsmen, which brings out the full beauty of both the crochet and the stones, and imparts a unique sense of lightness. Unlike traditional gemstone setting, the stone is is held in place with just a few gold or silver threads which are subtly intertwined with others whose color matches the stone, thus creating a subtle but visible link.
To showcase this work, Anna-Barbara Aumüller chose a chiffon fabric by Perrin Weavings* to create a sleek, hand-pleated dress that perfectly follows the contours of the collar to which it is invisibly sewn.
*For a full century and five successive generations, Perrin weavings has produced some of the world’s most most beautiful silk pieces. This gem of the French textile industry combines tradition with contemporary style. With their ultra-modern, high-performance manufacturing plant, they are able to produce pieces ranging from soft velvet to flowing chiffons, from lacquered finishes to metal-plasticized fabric.
