SOS

Chiffon dress equipped with a GPS alert system

More and more clothing is being designed to support at-risk people with issues of health or addiction, as well as helping to prevent potentially unsafe situations.

Dominique Brogi’s technological development company Domie Digital has designed a free mobile application (Monsherif) suitable for many emergency situations: a child who gets lost or abducted, a woman who is assaulted or in danger, a senior citizen who has fallen down in an isolated place, etc. The simple press of an alarm button, which can be sewn into the garment, will trigger the appropriate response: a single click triggers a GPS tracking function that allows the position of the victim to be pinpointed to within a few dozen meters, while a double click alerts five pre-selected contacts via text message, email or a pre-recorded voice message.

This SOS feature has been incorporated into this sun-printed dress of cloqué mousseline featuring the blue and gold colors of the fashion house Sfate and Combier*. To be clearly visible, the alert button has been placed on the organza collar; in actual use, it would be discretely concealed.

*Sfate and Combier silk muslins are among the finest in France, providing a wide selection of shimmering, sheer, and glittering silks. The company also produce exceptional silk jacquards for luxury brands and designers alike. In recent years, they have expanded their range of products by adding a knitting tool that allows them to produce circular knitwear that cannot be unraveled, as well as 3D knitwear.
