In order to determine whether the strands meet the required production and marketing standards, the weavers use measuring instruments.
A dynamometer is used to calculate the breaking point, i.e. the maximum tension that a strand can tolerate before it breaks. It is also possible to measure the stretch of the thread in order to determine its elasticity. This allows the weaver to ensure that the threads are kept at the correct tension during the weaving procedure.
This device was used by the Bourgoin-Jallieu company Sportis et Jean Laurent until the 1980s. This company outfitted the French athletes at the Grenoble Olympic Games.
