Originally constructed in the 14th century and rebuilt three centuries later, the Mouturier Canal is a diversion canal on the Bourbre River which enabled the establishment of industries such as hemp processing and milling.
Consisting of a dozen dams, it led to a “water rush ” in the 18th century as the earliest factories sought a source of energy.
