This refractometer was used in the Schwarzenbach sizing workshop. Sizing prevents the threads from breaking during weaving. However, not all threads undergo the same treatment. The glue manufacturer specifies the temperature and the proportion of glue for each type of thread. The refractometer is then used to accurately carry out these measurements.
