Stretch leather jumpsuit with flexible gold paint
All leather hides are naturally stretchable in all directions. However, to create modular outfits that are comfortable to wear, technology and tradition must be combined. The thickness of the leather is first refined to 2 mm, which naturally increases its elasticity but also makes it more fragile. To stabilize it, the leather must be slightly stretched and then glued to a material with the same elasticity using a soft, stretchy glue. Stretch leather therefore has a “grain” side (the top) and a “split” side (the bottom).
Gilding on leather is usually carried out with hot gilding irons. It can also be cold processed by applying gold leaf to non-stretch leather. The patented process presented here has the particularity of using a special kind of paint made from gold powder, making it supple enough to adapt to the movement of the stretch leather. While normally the pattern would flake or peel off, this technique produces stretch leather with 24 carat gold designs that can be stretched in all directions without fear of damage.
